A revolutionary shift in environmental law and conservation is underway - the recognition of rivers as living entities with legal rights.
River Rights: Guardians for the Hogsmill, was an interdisciplinary dinner at the Stanley Picker Gallery that brought together local communities, legal experts, environmental activists, and cultural practitioners to explore the rights of rivers.
This exhibition revisits the event and invites you to engage with the river’s past, confront its present challenges, and shape its future. The Hogsmill’s survival depends on its guardians—community members and advocates—who must act now to ensure its preservation.
Here, the KSA Platform Gallery becomes a living archive. A table and a wall, reinterpreted from the original dinner setting, features a woven river-like runner, while photographs and fragments of the event’s script preserve the voices and ideas exchanged. This evolving space challenges us to consider: how can we recognise the Hogsmill as a living entity and advocate for its protection?
